Course Description

This course is aimed at qualified operational level Deck and Engine Officers (and other personnel assigned cargo watchkeeping duties) working on board VLEC (Ethane) carriers and is specifically aimed at those who will be responsible for safe cargo watchkeeping and supporting the planning and execution of cargo operations related to Ethane.

Course Content
  • Simulator-based exercise of Cooldown, Loading and Discharging operation
  • Understanding of dry dock to dry dock voyage cycle (VLEC / Ethane)
  • Working principles of ethane cargo containment systems and associated cargo and ballast handling equipment.
  • Awareness of VLEC safety and protective systems and equipment
  • Identifying, responding to and supporting the management of emergencies on ethane carriers (including ESD/ERS scenarios, where fitted)"
Entry Standards

STCW Basic Gas Tanker certification (prior gas tanker experience preferred).

Classroom, Videos, Gas Simulator - G-Sim DNV approved Class A Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator (MGC)

Classroom lecture, videos, various examples, simulated cargo exercises

Guidelines

IGC Code, SIGTTO Liquefied Gas Handling Principles on Ships and in Terminal
