Course Description

The course is designed for seafarers and maritime professionals to gain essential knowledge and practical understanding of properties of Methanol / Ethanol, safe and effective use of firefighting equipment specific to Methanol / Ethanol fire and effectively execute fire fighting tactics for Methanol / Ethanol related fires onboard ships using Methanol / Ethanol as fuel.

Course Content


Successful completion of this course will enable participants to understand:

  • Methanol / Ethanol properties and its unique Fire and vapour hazards.
  • Effective use of firefighting equipment specific to Methanol / Ethanol fires.
  • Pre-checks and correct use of PPE while fighting Methanol / Ethanol fire.
  • Methanol / Ethanol fire fighting/ suppression techniques.
Entry Standards

All Engine/ deck officers and ratings, shore personnel associated with Methanol / Ethanol powered vessels’ operations.

Classroom Lecture and Power Point Presentations, Training Videos and Group Discussions, practical demonstration and exercises.

IGF Code, SOLAS, Guide for Methanol Fuelled Vessels by ABS, Lloyds, CCS, IR Class & BV Methanol as a Marine fuel – Safety Handbook.
