Course Description

The course is designed for seafarers and maritime professionals to gain essential knowledge and practical understanding of methanol / Ethanol as a marine fuel. The course covers the operational, safety, and regulatory aspects of methanol / Ethanol fuelled vessels, ensuring participants are well-prepared to work safely and effectively in this evolving domain.

Course Content

Successful completion of this course will enable participants to understand:

  • The need for Methanol / Ethanol as an alternative fuel.
  • Design and Operational characteristics of ships and equipment related to methanol / Ethanol fuel storage and use.
  • Basic knowledge of hazards (toxicity, corrosivity and reactivity) associated with Methanol / Ethanol operations, and be able to take precautions to prevent those hazards.
  • Hazard control.
  • Environmental effects and First Aid measures for Methanol contact on eyes, skin and inhalation.
  • Basic knowledge of safe working practices on Methanol / Ethanol fueled vessels.
  • Emergency procedures and pollution prevention and respond effectively.
Entry Standards

All Engine/ deck officers and ratings, shore personnel associated with Methanol / Ethanol powered vessels’ operations.
