The Schulte Group contributed to the 2023 International Forum on Ship Technology and Safety which is one of the most important forums taking place during China Maritime Week.
Anil Jacob, Head of the Fleet Performance Centre (FPC) at Bernhard Ship Management (BSM), delivered the keynote on "Holistic Performance Solutions for Decarbonisation" while Max Shu, China Business Deputy Director of the Schulte Group, participated in a roundtable discussion on "A new era calls for a new role for shipping" with the aim of exploring challenges and discuss future cooperation and development in the shipping industry.
The theme of the forum was "New Voyage, New Technology, New Action”. It was organised by the Cangzhou Municipal Peoples' Government, the China Institute of Navigation, CHN Energy Investment Group (CHN Energy) and the China Waterborne Transport Research Institute.
With the new IMO regulations on Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) having already taken effect earlier this year, Anil Jacob highlighted the Schulte Group’s commitment to play an active role in the worldwide decarbonisation initiatives. In his speech, he underlined the FPC’s support to ship owners in their efforts to reduce the carbon impact of their vessels through the overall management process of ship performance monitoring, digitalisation, decarbonisation management, data collection and analysis.
With the inclusion of the maritime sector into the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) by 2024, the Schulte Group is developing a platform that will cover the entire process of EU ETS handling to support customers to navigate the complexities of the upcoming requirements. So far, the company has realised a voyage history view for daily and total EU relevant CO2 emissions and EU allowances required and is aiming to provide forecasts for the relevant ships emissions to be expected in the future.
In the second half of the forum, Max Shu, China Business Deputy Director of the Schulte Group, participated in the roundtable discussion where he touched on the Schulte Group’s latest initiatives in carbon emission reduction including the FPC’s digital solutions, Bernhard Schulte’s two latest CSOV orders with hybrid battery propulsion as well as the need to train crews with dual-fuel qualifications.
