NEWBUILDING DESIGN AND SUPERVISION SERVICES

Working under the banner of Schulte Marine Concept Ltd., the recently integrated teams of Bernhard Schulte Cyprus, Eurasia Marine Consultancy and Dorchester Atlantic Marine have between them successfully completed close to 60 newbuilding and conversion projects, with another 20 ongoing projects in various stages of progress. The combined companies have supervised the building and conversion of a wide spectrum of vessels including LNG carriers, LPG/ethylene tankers, crude and product tankers, gravity-fed self-unloading bulk carriers, heavy-lift vessels, semi-submersibles, container vessels and conventional bulkers.

We have unique design expertise in several vessel types, where we place great emphasis on incorporating the operational experience we have through managing a large fleet.

Shipping is a cyclical business with continuous fluctuations in the market fuelling constant newbuilding, replacement and scrapping activity. Since a vessel’s delivery period is inevitably long, shipowners have to speculate on the direction of the market at delivery, even before they have placed an order for the newbuilding.

In many specialized applications the vessel is only one element of a large project and a disciplined project management approach is required to ensure smooth dovetailing with the overall economics and design plan. Time or cost overruns can eliminate projected margins, making it critical that projects are completed on time with no compromise on cost or quality. Close supervision by qualified experts is therefore of critical importance, right from a vessel’s inception on the drawing board, through its sea trials to final delivery.
