TECHNICAL SUPERINTENDENT –
CONTAINER VESSELS
As a BSM Superintendent you will have a vital role as a member of a fleet team consisting of up to 10 persons. The fleet team will be responsible for all operational aspects and budget control of 15 – 20 vessels. You will be responsible for the technical operations of the 4 – 6 vessels assigned to you, ensuring that the vessels are operated in compliance with our procedures. You will be required to liaise closely with the other fleet team members and our support functions (technical, personnel, QA and operations) and the Fleet Manager.
Your key responsibilities:
- Ensure that the vessels are maintained and operated safely, efficiently and economically as per company procedures through close contact with the Senior Officers, onboard inspections and supervision
- Make sure that the maintenance planning, execution and control is carried out in accordance with good practice and company standards. Ensure that the maintenance record keeping is carried out correctly in the ABS NS Planned Maintenance System
- Monitor unscheduled repairs and trends and communicate experience to other vessels and share experience with the Fleet Manager / Director and the other Superintendents
- Ensure that vessels receive supplies and spare parts as necessary.
- Ensure that vessels follow relevant regulations.
- Ensure that the company's Planned Maintenance System (ABS NS) is used correctly and kept updated
- Monitor the condition of the vessels during inspections and report as per the company procedures and clients'/owners' requirements
- Prepare, supervise, document and follow-up on dry-dockings.
- Prepare and monitor vessel budgets. The Superintendent is responsible that the vessel complies with the budgets for the technical operations.
- Monitor and report personnel performance and training needs to the Personnel Director
- Follow new developments within the technical fields
- Other special tasks and projects as per the Fleet Manager's instructions
Your qualifications:
- Minimum 3 years experience from a similar position, for example, as a Superintendent for geared container ships with a capacity of more than 1000 TEU, preferably with a ship manager, but not essential
- Interest in working with quality systems such as ISM and ISO 9000
- Experience in budget planning and control
- Experience in preparation and execution of dry-dockings
- Good communication skills
- Good organisational skills
- Able to coordinate and work under pressure
- Good computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Package (Word, Excel)
- Willing to travel abroad on a regular basis
- Team player
