A day to remember for Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, as Mr. Andreas Droussiotis, Non-Executive Chairman of BSM was awarded the “Cyprus Maritime Personality Award 2011”. The “Cyprus Maritime Personality Award” which is one of the two awards bestowed every two years during the “Maritime Cyprus” Conference, was presented to Mr. Droussiotis by the Minister of Communications and Works, Mr. Efthemios Flourentzou on behalf of the President, during a special ceremony that took place at the social opening of the “Maritime Cyprus 2011” International Conference, at the Amathus Beach Hotel in Limassol, on Sunday, 2 October 2011.
The Selection Committee, when examining the candidacies for the Awards, took into consideration the relevant criteria and rules, the interpretation of which was left to its exclusive discretion. It came not as a surprise when Droussiotis was selected amongst other candidates as the number one personality who deserved to be awarded.
His participation in international fora abroad for the promotion of Cyprus Merchant Shipping, his contribution with specific actions and initiatives to the development of shipping activities in Cyprus, to the increase of the number of vessels registered in the Cyprus Registry, to the improvement of the safety standards of Cyprus flag vessels, and the establishment of shipping companies that operate in Cyprus, were some of the reasons which pushed the Selection Committee to reach their decision.
Under his expert guidance and leadership, the management of a significant number of vessels effected from Cyprus by Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement, his participations in International Organisations / Chambers / Unions, as a national representative supporting the interest of the Cyprus Shipping and the shipping industry in general, and his support of the positions of Cyprus in International Organisations / Chambers / Unions as a representative of a national institution, also received the attention of the Selection Committee.
Last but not least, the Selection Committee undoubtedly recognised his continuous contribution to the education and training of the Seafarers onboard Cyprus Flag vessels, the establishment and development of the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement Maritime Training Centre (BSM MTC), and the attraction of young Cypriots to the shipping/maritime professions.
