Successfully concluded orders for Chemical Tankers in China
13th March 2008

Between June and December 2007, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Bermuda) closed a number of chemical tanker newbuilding transactions with both existing and new clients.

The brokerage success was brought about by the excellent cooperation between a number of parties in the Schulte Group, namely Bernhard Schulte (Hellas) and Schulte Marine Concept Limited.

In June 2007, three 16,500 dwt IMO 2 tanker orders were placed by our clients Intrepid Shipping, USA. These vessels will be constructed at Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding Co. and are expected to be delivered in 2009 and 2010. Jiangzhou Union Shipbuilding Co. shipyard is already well known to us. In fact, our principal shareholders Bernhard Schulte have placed orders for a total of 8 x 16,500 dwt IMO 2 and IMO 3 tankers with the same shipyard.

In September 2007, our clients Algoma Tankers (Canada/Barbados) placed an order for three further IMO 2 sister vessels at Jiangzhou. The deliveries of these vessels will take place in 2010 and 2011.

In November 2007, both Intrepid Shipping and Algoma Tankers decided to participate in an order for a total of five x 25,000 dwt IMO 2 tankers at Nantong Mingde, China. 2 of these vessels are for ownership of Bernhard Schulte, two are for Algoma Tankers and one for the ownership of Intrepid Shipping. Deliveries of these vessels will take place in 2010 and 2011.

In December 2007, a further order was placed for one 25,000 dwt IMO 2 tanker. The owners of this vessel are US-based investors, and again, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Bermuda) brokered the transaction.

All tankers now on order at Jiangzhou Union shipyard and Nantong Mingde in China are under the newbuilding supervision of Schulte Marine Concept Limited.

Upon delivery of each one of the tankers from their respective yards, they will enter the newly established “Hanseatic Tanker Pool,” which will be managed by Bernhard Schulte (Hellas). In addition to the members mentioned above, our long-established clients Sloman-Neptun have also decided to join the pool with three of their newbuilding 16,500 IMO 2 tanker vessels, also under construction at Jiangzhou Union shipyard. The pool with its six partners will operate one of the most modern and sophisticated chemical tanker fleets in the world.

The pool will commence operations this year as the first two deliveries of Schulte-controlled IMO 3 tankers emerge from Jiangzhou Union shipyard, expected for the 3rd and 4th quarters of 2008. A further vessel will also join this year, the 1998 built and Algoma Tankers-owned chemical tanker, “Amalienborg,” to be renamed “Algoma Hansa.”
