Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement operates the BSM Maritime Training Centre (Cyprus) Ltd. (formerly Hanseatic Marine Training School) in Limassol Cyprus. Founded in 1983, the school is an IMO-approved Maritime Training Centre operating under the auspices of the Cyprus Administration. Individual courses are separately recognized by individual leading flag state authorities where required. The Centre provides training for ratings and junior officers employed on Cyprus and foreign flag ships.

In addition to mandatory training courses according to requirements as included in the Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers as amended (STCW ’95) a special emphasis is placed on courses beyond STCW ’95 requirements. The aim is to support and enhance the career developments of our seafarers by providing an integrated training programme from trainee or cadet level to senior officers at management level.

Our specialised training and up-grading courses include:

• a 34-month training scheme for trainees leading to a Certificate of Proficiency as Oiler and AB (Able-Bodied Seaman). Graduates are the basis for further development of our officer group.
• 6-week Junior Officer upgrading courses for ex-training school graduates and other seafarers, to promote ratings to officers’ posts.
• 2-week preparatory courses for Senior Officers before their promotions to management level.

A variety of short courses and distance learning programmes is available for seafarers assigned to the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement fleet and for personnel assigned to vessels of a number of leading international shipping and offshore companies, in order to stay constantly up-to-date with the constant flow of new legislation implemented by IMO and regional governments

In 1998 BSM Maritime Training Centre (Cyprus) Ltd. won the Lloyd's List Youth & Training Award for its outstanding and consistent contribution to maritime training. This recognized the extreme dedication of a very special international training resource which to date has instructed over 4,600 students from more than ten different countries.

BSM Maritime Training Centre (Cyprus) Ltd. has capacity for 74 live-in trainees and comprises Deck, Engine and Catering departments. The school is well equipped with practical and theoretical training material, including a computer laboratory, a comprehensive audio-visual library, computer-based training aids including Bridge Team and Resources Management. In accordance with our commitment to providing high level training to all seafarers, BSM Marine Training Centre (Cyprus) Ltd. has recently committed considerable funds to new technology, including a Kongsberg Engine Room Simulator and a ‘Wise’ MPRI Liquid Cargo Handling Simulator, which covers chemical tanker, crude oil / product tanker and LPG carrier models.
