|  Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus) Ltd., formerly Hanseatic Shipping Co. Ltd., was founded on the island of Cyprus in 1972. Cyprus was chosen because of the high level of education amongst the population, the efficient communication systems already in place and its strategic geographic location.
Our Cyprus Service Delivery Centre initially offered crew management services, which soon evolved and upscaled into providing both full service and technical management to our clients. Being the first offshore shipmanagement company on the island, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus) Ltd. has been instrumental in helping Cyprus become one of the leading shipmanagement centres in the world.
Since its establishment, the clear focus has been on the quality of the crews and specialists assigned to clients’ vessels in order to provide highly educated and properly trained personnel. It was for this very reason that the Hanseatic Marine Training School was founded in Limassol back in 1983. Since then, Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement training establishments have been set up around the globe, including the Philippines, Myanmar, Estonia, Latvia, Russia, Ukraine, Venezuela and Croatia. All these agencies belong to our group in order to keep full control over recruitment standards as well as to ensure that our corporate philosophy and values are implemented and embedded.
Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus) Ltd. is a member of the Cyprus Shipping Council, which - in terms of tonnage – is the largest representative organisation of shipowners and managers worldwide. The Council is an influential member of international associations such as the ICS, ISF, BIMCO etc. and through its President and other members, sits on these associations’ Executive Committees. The Cyprus Shipping Council also represents the Cyprus Government at IMO meetings and sub-committees. Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement’s Chief Executive Officer Andreas Droussiotis is currently the Immediate Past President of the Council, having served as President for a period of six years.
Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus) Ltd. was the driving force behind the establishment of the International Ship Managers’ Association (ISMA). The ISMA Code of Shipmanagement Practice is the most effective tool for pure third-party shipmanagers to set the highest standards of business practice for the protection of the environment, the welfare of seafarers and the value maintenance of shipowners’ property. Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (Cyprus) Ltd. was the first company to be certified under ISMA; since the implementation of its quality management system in 1992, as the ISMA Code incorporates all elements of the ISO and subsequent ISM codes, all vessels under our Cyprus company’s full management held ISM certification before its actual implementation.
