| Dr Ruanthi De Silva had her initial education in Sri Lanka. She is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants UK. She holds an MBA from the University of Hull UK and a Doctorate from the University of Newcastle in Australia. Her research thesis was titled “The management of Intellectual Capital in the Shipmanagement Industry and its impact on seafarers; An Indian Subcontinent Perspective” and addresses the issue of seafarer retention. Ruanthi is also an Associate member of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. Ruanthi’s shipping career spans over 26 years, covering agency shipping, freight forwarding, chartering, liner shipping and ship management. She was a key member of the Ceylon Shipping Corporation Team that introduced Containerization to Sri Lanka in 1978. In 1981, she joined Neptune Orient Lines in Singapore, as the financial head of their Chartering Department. In 1990, Ruanthi joined Hapag Lloyd as a founding member of their Region East office and was the Financial Controller for the Eastern Hemisphere. Between 1995 and 2003 she worked for other world class shipping companies such as Pacific International Lines Singapore, Inchcape Shipping Asia Pacific Office in Hong Kong, Thompson Clarke Shipping Sydney and Samudera Indonesia, as a Senior Consultant. She states that she owes her shipping career to Ceylon Shipping Corporation where she learned the fundamentals of shipping. Ruanthi joined Eurasia Group in 2003 and established its Supply Chain Management Unit under the guidance of Mr. Jairaj. She played a key role in being the architect of the SCM Concept Paper drawn up for the group, which won the 2004 Hong Kong Best Practices Award in SCM. In May 2007, Ruanthi was promoted as Director SCM and Management Accounting of the Eurasia Group. She designed a monthly result reporting system for measuring customer profitability on a vessel-wise basis to support pricing and resource planning decisions. Ruanthi is married and has a 23 year old son and a 9 year old daughter. She believes that her motherhood helps her to keep a balance and has given her the natural flair for “juggling” between chores. If you happen to see Ruanthi in double vision, it is probably because she has a twin sister! |
