David Furnival

Chief Operating Officer

Mr. Furnival commenced his sea-going career in 1975 as an Engineering Officer Cadet with British chemical tanker company Panocean, obtaining a Class 1 Certificate of Competency in 1985.

Following a two-year period ashore as Design Engineer, he returned to sea with John Frederiksen's Seatankers and later with Columbia Shipmanagement, Cyprus, sailing as Chief Engineer and was promoted to Technical Superintendent in 1991.

In 1993 Mr. Furnival accepted the position of Technical Manager with C.F. Ahrenkiel, Cyprus, and by the time he returned to the UK in 1998 was in charge of the technical operations of a fleet of 21 vessels, including LPG carriers, chemical tankers, container vessels, reefers and PCCs.

Since 1998 he has worked with Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (formerly Dorchester Atlantic Marine Limited) based on the Isle of Man, accepting promotion to Operations Director in May 1999 and Managing Director in September 2005.

In January, 2008 he was appointed as Group Managing Director of BSM. Since 1st January, 2012 he take up the role of Chief Operating Officer.

Mr. Furnival is a former Chairman of the Isle of Man Shipping Association, a Member of the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology and a Director and Board Member of the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO).
